The Government’s Cyber Security Breaches Survey 2018 has found that 56% of businesses hold personal data electronically with 47% of these experiencing breaches or attacks in the last 12 months.

The majority of criminal hackers no longer look for high-profile targets or businesses, instead they are more devious and use automated attacks to exploit inadequately protected targets or smaller businesses. A modern cyber criminal may send out phishing emails or network scans looking for vulnerable systems to manipulate.

General Data Protection Regulation 2018 (GDPR) and Data Protection Act 2018 (DPA) state that all organisations that process personal data must implement appropriate measures to ensure its security or else risk receiving penalties in the form of fines up to €20 million or 4% of annual global turnover- whichever is greater.

At Walker Solicitors we are delighted to have received certification from Cyber Essentials to demonstrate that we have the key controls in place. Cyber Essentials have examined and verified that our cyber security controls are in place and functioning properly meaning that we have implemented the necessary provisions and are taking action to mitigate the risks we may face.
