Lasting powers of attorney FAQs

What is a lasting power of attorney?
A Lasting Powers of Attorney is a way to plan ahead.  It is a legal document that enables you to appoint someone to make decisions on your behalf to manage your finances which could include payment of bills; management of your bank accounts and your property in the future if you are unable to make those decisions yourself.

Anyone can become physically or mentally incapable as a result of  illness or accident regardless of how old they are.

You are able to choose who will have authority to deal with your finances and property as well as make decisions about your health and welfare which could include decisions about where you live and your day-to-day care.

Without a Lasting Power of Attorney in order to authorise the appointment of a person  to make the decisions on your behalf application to the Court of Protection will be required which is a complicated process and is costly.
